Because of it's exceptional size the Maragogype variety is also known as "Elephant bean". This variety was first cultivated near a Brazilian village called "Maragogipe" in the province of Bahia. There are different theories on the exact origin of the variety. The most common states that it is a natural mutation of the Typica variety. Another theory says that the variety originated from a crossing experiment with Coffea Liberica. Wherever it originated, the Maragogype variety is a very stomach-friendly, smooth giant among coffee beans.
