Farm History
The Lamastus Family Estates were founded in 1918 by Roberto Lamastus, incorporating three estates: Elida Estate, El Burro Estate, Luito Estate. Each of these farms is located in a different region of the highlands of Panama and accordingly possesses its own microclimate and terroir.
Nestled in the untouched nature of Panama, partially enveloped by the majestic Baru Volcano National Park, lies El Burro Estate – a gem among coffee farms. Under the stewardship of the Lamastus family for generations, this farm is distinguished by its dedicated art of coffee cultivation. The farm spans 65 hectares, of which 30 hectares are dedicated to coffee cultivation and 35 hectares to a protected forest reserve.
El Burro Estate is renowned for its location in one of the least disturbed regions of Panama, endowing the coffee with a unique character. At elevations of up to 2000 meters, with coffee growing up to 1750 meters, a microclimate unfolds that is distinctly different from that of the neighboring Elida Estate. This altitude, combined with the rich, volcanic soil and unique microclimate, lays the foundation for the development of the coffee's complex flavors.
In harmony with nature, the coffee is shade-grown and bird-friendly. This not only contributes to the preservation of local biodiversity but also fosters a coffee of exceptional quality. El Burro Estate has made a name for itself through this sustainable and careful cultivation practice, receiving numerous awards for its coffee.
